Are your Feet Spring Ready?

Oakville Chiropodist Arien

Even though most days it hasn’t been feeling like it here in Oakville, it’s officially Spring! As the weather gets warmer we think about wearing sandals and letting our feet out of our winter socks. It’s also a time we see people realize they may not have been taking care of their feet over the winter. It’s appropriate at any time of year to ensure your feet and toenails are taken care, of but we see many people at our Oakville Foot Clinic in Palermo Professional Professional Centre who become self conscious of showing their bare feet as the nicer weather approaches. For many, having their ingrown toenails, corns, callouses and warts treated by a Chiropodist (Foot Care Specialist) is a matter of aesthetics, but in reality proper foot care is so much more than that. It can help alleviate foot pain and discomfort caused by warts and corns on the bottom of the foot, it can help with pain and potential infection from ingrown toenails, and the callouses on the bottoms of the feet tell about how we bare weight and how well our joints are moving. For those with decreased mobility (some seniors), decreased sensation of the foot (such as a diabetic), or some who many have communication difficulties, proper foot care prevent a serious complication related to infection.  Here are some indications that you could use a check-up or treatment with a Chiropodist (foot care specialist):

  • You have decreased sensation of the foot
  • Your toenail(s) dig into the surrounding skin
  • You have diabetes
  • You cannot reach your foot / feet or see the bottoms of your feet
  • You have an unexplained open wound on your foot
  • You have foot or heel pain
  •  You have a growth on the bottom of your foot
  • You have one leg that is longer than the other
  • You have arthritis in the foot and ankle joints
  • You have knee or hip arthritis
  • There are callouses (with or without pain) at the bottom
