Team Tuesday – Meet Oakville Physio Kristina

Why did you decide to become a Physiotherapist?

Going into university I knew I wanted to come out of it with a career that would help people. At first I thought it would be something in psychology because I find the motivations behind why people do things fascinating, but after taking a sports medicine class as an extra-curricular, I was swayed toward learning more about how the human body works. The fact that the Physiotherapy program promised practical knowledge and the freedom of not being behind a desk for eight hours was exciting (and still is)!

Why are you passionate about the Physiotherapy Profession?

The longer I am a physiotherapist, the more I love it. Aside from the fact that I love learning about how the human body works and helping people, Physiotherapy continues to inspire me because there is always room for growth and improvement, there are so many nuances to what you learn as you gain further experience, and it’s a profession that requires not only critical thinking but also creative problem-solving!

What do you like most about working at Oakville’s Palermo Physiotherapy and Wellness Centre?

Drawing from all prior work experience I have ever had, I have to say that the commute and the people are the “make it or break it.” I love the Palermo Physiotherapy and Wellness team! They are all wonderful human beings, dedicated to providing quality care and service, and always contribute to a positive work environment. It’s a workspace that values the growth and education of its employees, delivering quality care to patients, and work-life balance.

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

A little bit of everything! I love being in nature just as much as a date on my couch with a good book and a cup of hot tea. I also like to sign up for various activities throughout the year (yoga, tennis, 5K races, kickboxing classes, etc.).

Do you have a favourite sport or activity?

Tennis and running are top of the list, but I also think of the gym as an essential part of my week.

What’s the most recent book you’ve read / movie you’ve watched?

The most recent book would be “The Dark Forest” from Cixin Liu’s Three Body Problem trilogy. Although I used to be more of a science fiction reader, in the past couple of years I have been gravitating a lot more toward autobiographies. The most recent movie was Bohemian Rhapsody in theatres. I didn’t know the Queen origin story to begin with and I definitely enjoyed the music!
