The team at our North Oakville Physiotherapy, Massage and Foot Clinic loves to share our knowledge and explain what the professions of Chiropody (Foot Care Specialist), Physio and Massage Therapy do. On Wednesday October 21st we were able to that at a health fair at one of our neighbours in North Oakville – Palermo Village Retirement Residence. Our

Physio Lisa, Registered Massage Therapist Sarah, and Chiropodist Brittney were available to answer questions for the residents, staff, and community members of Palermo, Oakville, Burlington and even South Milton. We were able to educate on how we practice and treat patients and who our services can benefit.

In the climate and excitement of the pending opening of the New Oakville Hospital, one of the things we like most about these opportunities is to meet other members of the health care and medical communities and learn more about what they do also!

Oakville Optometrists (eye Doctors) from Envision Eye Care were on hand to explain the importance of regular eye and vision check-ups. Just like having a check-up with your family physician, it’s important to have your eyes checked to help identify not just vision issues but also more serious systemic issues. There was a table full of some of their tools, and they were very informative that most health care plans cover a regular check-up and OHIP will cover it in children and youth as well as seniors. There clinic is located on the first floor of the Palermo Professional Centre in the same building as our Physio, Massage and Foot Clinic in North Oakville. (I’ve also caught myself browsing through their glasses and sunglasses on numerous occasions!

Chorus Speech and Hearing Centre and Audiologist John was at the Palermo Village

Health Fair. He discussed with the residents and their families how important their hearing is in quality of life and their interaction with their surrounding world and loved ones. There are many options for hearing aid technology for people of all ages. He’s an excellent resource in the Palermo and North Oakville Community!

Along with some of our Palermo Professional Centre neighbours, we also met a few new services that are available to the community of Oakville as well as Burlington, Mississauga and Milton. Joanna Miloszewski

from Access Dental Care is a Dental Hygienist providing home visits. This is an excellent service for people who have mobility challenges and have difficulty with more regular visits to their Dentists. It is a similar service to what our Chiropodist can provide with regards to home visits (in a certain radius), hospital visits, and visits to retirement residences such as Palermo Village Retirement in North Oakville.

Across the health fair from our Palermo Physio and Wellness booth were representatives from the David Barrick Denture Clinic. With them they brought a variety of examples of the services  offered at the clinics in Oakville and Burlington. It’s amazing to hear about the passion other health care providers in the Oakville and surrounding areas have regarding their fields and the services their provide their patients. As is the goal of our Oakville Massage Therapists, Physio’s, and Chiropodist they aim to positively impact the quality of life of patients and work with them to achieve their goals.
