Helping hands from Oakville Physio, massage, yoga, yoga therapy, foot clinic

Oakville’s Palermo Physio and Wellness would like to wish everyone a Happy Valentine’s Day!

In light of this day and it’s relation to the heart, we’d like to encourage everyone to show some love to the most important person in your life…

YOU!

It’s not a selfish think to show some love to yourself and work on yourself.

Here are some things that you can do for yourself today and everyday to begin to sneak in some self love:

Read a Book – grab a new book, whether it be from the library or a book store. Nourish your brain and you enter a new world or ponder a new subject!

Sign up for a Class/ Activity – From intensive courses, to free online workshops there is a lot out there. Try something new or revisit an activity that you have always wanted to try.

Reflect – Sit back for a second and ponder. Journal or just think… Congratulate yourself on working hard. Reflect on if your activities and lifestyle is serving you and your goals. There are life coaches, Psychologists, social workers friends etc. that can help you work through these things. Dig deep.

Workout – This is very vague. Get your body moving and your heart pumping – whatever this means for you. Stay strong and mobile. It will serve you as you move through life. It doesn’t have to be a chore, or be complicated. A Physiotherapist can help you choose an activity for your goals.

Breath– Take a second to breath. In treatment we often find that people breath shallowly, from the tops of their chests. Open your shoulders and breath fully and deeply into your lower ribs and sigh it out. There are different breathing exercises (Pranayama) that help us focus on different aspect of breath. Not sure if you’re breathing “properly”? Your Physiotherapist or Yoga Therapist can help cue you and ensure you are comfortable with breathing well!

Nurture your Relationships – communicate, ask questions, be interested. Spend quality time together. Put your phone down, maybe go for a walk together.

Now these suggestions are highly subjective, but I’m sure you get the point. It is easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Set a reminder in your schedule if you need to to evaluate if some of the things you do on a regular basis are serving you and your goals. It doesn’t have to be a large swing in one direction but little things at a time.

You may see a pattern that really includes slowing down. Take time to stop and small the roses. You may have seen the Book of Awesome in our reception area. Take a cue and remind yourself of all those small “awesome’s” in your life.

You Deserve It.
